Shampoos are generally viscous liquids, clear or opaque (pearlized), containing 20–40% solids with a pH adjusted to around 5.5. Most shampoos have viscosities ranging from 500 to 1500 centipoises. A hair shampoo is essentially a detergent designed specifically for washing hair and comes in convenient packaging. An effective shampoo should clean thoroughly, rinse easily, add gloss, reduce tangles, and avoid causing damage to the hair, scalp, or eyes.
Main Shampoo Manufacturing Vessel: The manufacturing vessel is a cylindrical structure with a dished bottom and a welded dished top. It includes an agitator assembly, typically a slow-speed anchor agitator, though contra-rotating or semi-contra rotating agitators are preferred for better quality. A CIP turbo disk is installed at the top for cleaning, and the vessel is equipped with nozzles, manholes, and valves. It can also feature a jacket for heating or cooling as needed and can operate under full vacuum.
Premixing Vessel: The premixing vessel is also cylindrical with a dished bottom and either a welded dished top or a loose lid. It includes a high-speed cowl or saw cutter type agitator, with high-speed homogenizers sometimes added. A CIP turbo disk is used for cleaning, and the vessel has nozzles, manholes, and valves. It features a jacket for heating, which can be steam or electrically heated, along with insulation and cladding. No vacuum is required, and its capacity is usually 60% of the main manufacturing vessel’s capacity.
